Rencana skype untuk merilis skype untuk iphone akhirnya benar terwujud. Sebelumnya untuk percakapan skype pengguna iphone menggunakan fringe www.fring.com. Seperti versi skype untuk desktop, selain untuk percakapan suara skype iphone pun bisa digunakan untuk chat. Namun menurut FAQ dari skype.com skype iphone hanya bisa digunakan untuk menerima panggilan. Seperti dikutik dari FAQ berikut ini :

Can I receive incoming Skype calls/chats on my iPhone?
The Skype application must be started and signed in to receive incoming Skype calls and chats. If the application has been closed, incoming Skype calls cannot be received and chats will not be delivered.
